Mkomazi National Park
Mkomazi National Park (Hifadhi ya Taifa ya Mkomazi) is a large, semi-arid wildlife park in northern Tanzania, near the border with Kenya’s Tsavo West National Park — together forming one of East Africa’s most important protected ecosystems.
Size: ~3,200 km² of dry savannah, Acacia-Commiphora woodlands, rocky hills and open plains.
Landscape: Vast plains with dramatic views of the Pare and Usambara Mountains, and clear sightlines toward Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days.
Conservation: World-recognized for successful black rhino and African wild dog conservation, with breeding and reintroduction programs.
Birdlife: Over 450 bird species occur here, making it a top destination for birdwatching.
Mkomazi is less visited than Tanzania’s northern circuit parks — meaning fewer vehicles, quieter wilderness, and more natural animal behaviour.
